(Lincoln, RI, February 2001) Kathleen, John, and Mark Corbett have just returned to Lincoln, RI after attending the National Association of Exclusive Buyer Agents (NAEBA) 6th Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida.

Members of NAEBA, the Corbett Team works with prospective buyers looking for homes in all of Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts. As President, John William Corbett, is responsible for assuring that all agents in the office of The Buyer’s Choice adhere to the NAEBA philosophy, ABOVE ALL IS THE CONSUMER. Since 1991 The Buyer’s Choice has helped many buyers, their clients, find the home of their dreams at a price they could afford.

The NAEBA Annual Conference Program was designed to provide cutting-edge information to all NAEBA members. Topics included updates to law and legislative issues as well as sessions on procuring cause, handling a “hot” buyer’s market, Fee for service alternatives, conducting home buyer seminars and other substantive material. A pre-conference workshop to obtain The ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative) and the ABRM (Accredited Buyer Representative Manager) designation was well attended. Over 25 attendees at this meeting earned the designations, Both Kathleen and John Corbett earned both designations and became members of REBAC (Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council)

Members of the National Association of Exclusive Buyer Agents are real estate brokers and agents employed by homebuyers to protect the buyer’s interest in real estate transactions. NAEBA members pledge in writing to represent only buyers and never to represent sellers nor their agents and believe that buyers and sellers should be represented by their own agent with both agents being from separate firms. Professional Exclusive Buyer Agents have a network of reputable experts, attorneys, mortgage consultants, appraisers, engineers, home inspectors, etc. which assist them in protecting the buyers. The job of the Exclusive Buyer Agent (EBA) is not to “sell” but to SERVE their buyer, their client, with advance and other representational services to help the consumer make an informed decision to buy. An Exclusive Buyer Agent has an obligation to show buyers the entire inventory of available real estate including MLS, for-sale-by-owner, bank-owned properties, auctions and new construction. Studies show that Exclusive Buyer Agents save their clients money and time plus increase negotiating power.

NAEBA certifies brokers and agents through their Certified Exclusive Buyer Agent (CEBA) designation. This program involves both classroom studies and industry experience. Exclusive Buyer Agents who have the CEBA designation have proven their commitment to this field of EBA specialization. Both Kathleen and John Corbett became the first in Rhode Island to achieve this designation in Washington, DC on September 9,1999. Mark attended the classes in Fl and passed the exam.

Headquartered in Longwood, Florida, NAEBA currently is organized into four geographic regions covering the continental United States. The highlight of the year us the Annual Conference that provides educational workshops and networking opportunities. The association hosts a consumer-oriented web site at www.naeba.org
